Case Background: From Optical Communication Pioneer to Intelligent Manufacturing Pioneer
Company F is a leader in China’s optical communication field. In recent years, with the wave of Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing sweeping through the manufacturing industry, Company F has realized a significant improvement in production and logistics efficiency through the application of large-scale automation equipment in its digital smart factory. Unmanned forklift trucks have taken on key intralogistics tasks, responsible for the precise handling and docking of pallets and cable reels.
Challenge: Precise identification and handling in complex environments
In Company F’s smart factory, pallets and cable reels are often placed at irregular angles and positions, which poses a big challenge to the unmanned forklift truck’s precise recognition and docking capabilities. In addition, the logistics environment inside the factory is complex, and the equipment needs to operate in dynamically changing scenarios, both to avoid low obstacles and to ensure safe operation when the forklift trucks are up to 2.2 meters high, so as to ensure smooth and efficient logistics operations.
Solution: 3D vision pallet recognition, obstacle avoidance and ceiling-vision navigation system from MRDVS
To solve these complex logistic challenges, Company F’s unmanned forklift trucks deployed MRDVS’ pallet recognition system, 3D vision obstacle avoidance solution, and V-series ceiling-vision navigation system to ensure the accuracy and safety of each handling operation.
- With MRDVS’s PalletPro pallet recognition system, the unmanned forklift can capture the depth information of pallets and cable reels in real time, ensuring that the position and attitude of the pallets can be accurately recognized even when the pallets are placed in irregular positions. When the forklift truck approaches the pallet by about 200mm, the system automatically adjusts its position to ensure the pallet is accurately aligned with the forklift truck. With this system, the forklift accomplishes 500 times of docking, handling and stacking tasks per day, which greatly improves the overall handling efficiency.
- 3D Visual Obstacle Avoidance Solution Company F’s stacking forklifts and latent AGVs both adopt MRDVS’ 3D visual obstacle avoidance solution. Whether it is a low latent AGV or a 2.2 meter high stacker forklift, the system can effectively recognize low or overhanging obstacles and keep the equipment running stably in complex scenes. Through 3D vision, the equipment is able to make real-time adjustments in dynamic environments to ensure safe and smooth handling, and the stacker forklift trucks are able to efficiently perform their tasks whether they are in narrow passages or in open storage areas.
- In order to ensure accurate navigation, F’s forklift trucks are equipped with MRDVS’s V series ceiling-vision navigation system. The system captures the natural features of ceilings and walls to achieve highly accurate positioning, ensuring that the equipment remains stable in the complex layout of the factory interior. The ceiling-vision navigation system is not only suitable for complex scenarios of parallel operation of multiple robots, but also has the ability of high-precision positioning. On average, each forklift truck travels nearly 10 kilometers per day, and the cumulative travel of the 18 forklifts reaches 50,000 kilometers, which seamlessly supports round-the-clock logistics operations.
Project Result: Comprehensive Improvement of Intelligent Logistics Efficiency
By deploying MRDVS’s pallet recognition, 3D vision obstacle avoidance and ceiling-vision navigation systems, Company F realized a comprehensive upgrade of logistics within its smart factory:
- Efficient and accurate handling operations: The pallet recognition system of the unmanned forklift ensures the accuracy of docking and handling tasks, and even in the case of irregular pallet placement, it can still complete 500 times of handling and stacking operations per day.
- Improved safety and stability: The 3D vision obstacle avoidance solution provides the forklift trucks and latent AMRs with all-round environment sensing capability, which enables the robots to avoid obstacles flexibly in complex environments and ensures operational safety.
- Stable all-day logistics support: The V series ceiling-vision navigation system ensures the stable operation of multiple robots in a large-scale factory, and each forklift truck travels nearly 10 kilometers per day, supporting all-day, high-efficiency logistics operations.
- Optimization in long-term cooperation: MRDVS 3D vision technology for mobile robots
