CV- SLAM (Ceiling Vision Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) Technology is an innovative approach for enabling mobile robots to navigate and orient themselves within indoor environments. Traditional localization methods often rely on horizontal rangefinders facing forward, scanning environments filled with obstacles and movable objects, complicating localization.
CV-SLAM addresses these challenges by using an upward-facing ToF depth camera, oriented towards the ceiling. Ceilings are typically static and unobstructed, unlike dynamic and cluttered floors, providing a more stable reference for localization.
Additionally, CV-SLAM leverages visual odometry, utilizing camera images to estimate the movement of robots over time, which is crucial for autonomous vehicles and indoor navigation.
